The rifle was loaded with blanks and attached to the Pitching Gun via a Telescoping Tube. The baseball's velocity was adjusted by extending or retracting the telescoping tube. Too bad the professors at Princeton are not still putting out cool gadgets like this.The article mentioned that the pitching gun was accurate, but scared the heck out of the batters.
