Auction Results

I mentioned earlier that I was bidding on some surplus ammunition in an internet auction. Well, I did not come out the winner on any of the ammo lots that I was interested in. I tried to keep my biding in the 30 to 35 cents per round for the 7.62 NATO and under 15 cents per round for 9MM, I was not successful. The winners in this auction did come away with some good deals. The 7.62 went for anywhere from 40 to 50 cents per round. Not to bad in this day and age.

Did I come away empty handed?

Nope. I came away the winner of this little beauty:

A Russian Mosin Nagant Bolt Action Rifle

Serial No. 95XXX, 6.62x54R, 21 1/2-inch barrel with standard sights. Receiver shows Russian crest and 1936 date. Medium color lacquer finished wood stock.

Condition: Very Good to Excellent. Retains 85%-90% blue. Stock shows scrapes and dings to finish from storage and handling.

Estimate: 100 - 200
My winning bid? $55.00

Time to contact my favorite FFL to handle the transfer.

And I believe that the 7.62x54 round is the oldest continuously used caliber in the world, too....

Worked good enough for the great sniper fest in Russia holding off the Hun. ;)

Wow. Nice rifle at twice that bid.

Congratulations; that's some good work.

Congrats on a fine rifle! Here's hoping your shoulder holds up ;-) Just remember to swab the bore with some Windex after shooting corrosive surplus amme before you clean it normally :)

And if you wish to bubba-ize it, the ATI black synthetic stock is pretty good for that role, it dropped in perfectly on my M38 carbine.

Excellent find! Looks like a m38 or a 91/59. I happen to be in the market for one 'o dem!

Sooo where was that auction site again? :)

Also; capcha is "ressest." Resist?

It is a 91/59, and I am happy to have found it.

It was on Greg Martin Auctions, almost in your neck of the woods ET.

Thanks for the reminder Parrothead, it has been awhile since I've shot any corrosive ammo.

Damnit JR! I was just looking through some old posts, and read that I envied you for something. So I clicked the link, not remembering what it was, and got envious all over again!

Please tell me you've gotten a chance to shoot her.

I've since gotten my own 91/59, and they are great little guns.

It shoots much, much better than I thought it would.

When we were at the river side range (the soooper sekret range) USCitizen of Traction Control elevated the sights up to the 400m mark and rang a gong out at 400 yards.

A fun, accurate .30 cal that eats cheap ammo from tuna cans. What more can you ask?
