Lone Star Friends of NRA Dinner.

This is one of my favorite events of the year, and it is only one month away. The 2008 Lone Star Friends of NRA Dinner is being held on Friday, February 29th, in Mesquite Texas. Each year this dinner kicks off the Texas State Rifle Association Annual Meeting weekend.

Last year's even raised over $30,000 for the NRA Foundation and we are hopeful that this year's even will be even bigger and better. The Friends of NRA has no part in the political processes that the NRA participates in, but rather is a continual source of funding for programs designed to foster the shooting sports and get Americans involved in shooting programs. Proceeds from this even will be used to fund additional permanently endowed scholarships within the Texas A&M System as part of the George Tubb memorial Scholarship Program.

Monies are raised through sponsorships, live and silent auctions, and raffles. V and I have been sponsors for the past couple of years, and continue to sponsor this worthy cause. If you are interested in a sponsor package, you can find more information here.

The auctions and raffles will include Friends of NRA National Merchandise packages. These packages include top quality firearms, art, knives, optics and accessories from national sponsors. When you add the merchandise from local businesses and individuals, you find one heck of a lot of loot for the folks who attend the event.

This Kimber is just one example from the national package:

There will also be a 12 gun drawing. This drawing features a mix of rifles, shotguns and pistols. The 12 guns in this drawing are:

Remington 770 .270 rifle with scope

Smith & Wesson M&P 9mm pistol

Charles Daly Field Grade Camo 12 ga. pump shotgun

Savage Package Rifle, .243 with scope

Rossi 352 .38 revolver

Mossberg 505 youth 20 ga. pump shotgun

Marlin 925 .22 bolt action rifle

Smith & Wesson 22A .22 pistol

Remington 870 Express 20 ga. pump shotgun

Mossberg 702 .22 semi-auto rifle

Charles Daly Sendero .357 single action revolver

Smith & Wesson 1012 12 ga. semi-auto shotgun

Tickets for the dinner are $30.00 each. You can purchase tickets and sponsorships by calling the TSRA at 1.866.897.4353. The dinner and camaraderie are worth the price of admission. The chance to walk out of there with some gunny goodness is just icing on the cake.

V and I really hope to see you there.

WE used to have a Friends banquet/auction here but it dissolved - I have a couple statues, and two "Sponsor" hats that are fading. I always wanted the Rough Rider statue with a Krag, because Grandpa left me a Krag when he passed and that kinda started every thing for me.
