Spiders

Alan posted a link to a truly inspired photograph of a dragonfly covered in dew in The beauty of small things. I say inspired because I probably would not have seen in my mind what a wonderful image that would turn out to be I had happened upon that particular dragonfly.

I do have one insect picture that I think turned out pretty nice.

I took this picture of a Yellow Garden Spider at Tiger Valley while V was taking her Women's Pistol Class. I think it is kind of cool because her mate is right there with her.

Great picture. I take a few pictures of spiders whenever I get the chance. There is a great photographer on Flickr http://www.flickr.com/photos/choomengfoo/ who takes macro pictures of insects and other creatures.

Nice. I have a hard enough time just trying to get non-blurry pictures of pipes. I think I'd be pretty hopeless with actual living creatures.

When I was a kid I used to feed grasshoppers to these spiders.

Thanks for creeping me out first thing on a Saturday morning. Now the tone for my whole day is set. I'm going back to bed.

Seriously, I've had a problem with spiders for as long as I can remember. I think it stems from my early days working the corn fields. These exact spiders (actually slightly different, but the same genus), used to make webs between the rows of corn at night. While detasseling or derogueing at oh-dark-thirty in the morning, we'd be walking the rows paying attention only to our work and BAMMO...walk face first right into these things. Sticky spider web in the mouth and a quarter sized arachnid scurrying across your face. The only hope is that your mouth isn't open when it happens.

Gives me the chills just thinking about it.

Anyway, you mentioned her mate. Don't worry, she'll kill and eat him after she's gotten what she wants from him...but literally, not in the figurative sense like human females do.

You and me both!!!

It's freakin' me out. OH MY GOODNESS....I hate spiders.

I've tried to abandon the fear of spiders and RATS...but I just can't seem to do it. I would rather just go "ballistic" if you know what I mean.

You guys really would not have liked this one. The body was nearly an inch long, the legs extended out to about 3 inches. Now that's a spider.

I'll have to grab some pictures of the tarantulas we have at work when they get to roaming around this Spring.

OH MY GOODNESS!!!

Tarantulas? OH MY GOODNESS!!! I would never be able to sleep. I would be so scared that they would come in the house and crawl on me in my sleep.

Do they come in your house?

OH MY GOODNESS!!! I hate spiders!! Tarantulas? I can't imagine seeing them crawling around out in the freakin' open!! I don't even like to see them in a glass tank at the flippin' zoos!
