Why not track ammo? In order to catch criminals AFTER they commited and ACTUAL crime?

The basic implementation cost of the ballistics identification programs for New York and Maryland were over $4,000,000. That was just the price tag to get it started, it does not include the cost to run and manage the programs. Your homework, Ma'am, is to find out exactly how many criminals were prosecuted by the use of this technology.

I will give you a hint. The technology is not successful in capturing and prosecuting criminals. It is however a good way to track and identify law abiding citizens. It is just another means of registration.

Jr., don't take this the wrong way, I trust you implicitly...but could you site your sources so I can go look it up.

My understanding is that NY and Maryland have had these programs for years, and they are very successfull.

And what does a law abiding citizen have to fear? The government? Again, that's an outmoded idea in the era of tanks and nuclear bombs. Your gun aint gonna protect you from the government. Nor is the government your enemy - not our government anyway.

Ma'am seems much more appropriate than Kitten :)

A cope of a Maryland State Police report:

There has only been one possible conviction due to Maryland's ammo id program, and if you read the court transcripts, you will see that the program had very little to do with the conviction.

Ammo ID is fluff. It does nothing for crime prevention. The sole purpose of ammo ID is to make firearms and ammo more expensive and less available to the American Citizen.

Los Angeles requires ID with ammo purchases. When a study determines that felons are purchasing ammo, do they arrest the felons? No, they want more ammo laws.
