Doc, It Hurts When I Do This…

Syd, over at" Front Sight, Press", posted an in depth commentary on a recent "accidental" shooting involving teen aged boys. He is spot on in what he says about the teens, the parents, and the news medias coverage of incidents such as this.

Click the link and give it a read.

As gun owners, we have the responsibility to teach our children the safe and efficient handling of firearms. If you do not own a firearm, even if you detest firearms, you have the responsibility to your children to teach them, in a rational manner, the basics of firearm safety.

If you have children visiting your home, and you are not 100% confident that each and every one of them respects firearms, knows and demonstrates firearm safety, and is a responsible kid with self discipline, lock up your firearms.

We have done an outstanding job of reducing the number of firearm related accidental deaths, but there is still room for improvement. You as a gun owner have the responsibility to ensure that a firearm owned by you will misused by anyone.

Robb and others have also commented on this. Sorry if I missed adding a link, in a bit of a hurry this morning.

Please note that most inexpensive cable locks can be defeated by a simple rap on the ground. Most trigger locks (cheap or expensive) can be defeated by a bit of prying with small screwdriver.

If intermediate problem solving is not beyond a child who will be in proximity to your locked firearm, get a safe as quickly as possible.

Do not trust trigger or cable locks to protect against the possible death of a child.
