My Reloading/Pistol Cleaning Bench

Powered by RCBS

As you can see I have a bag full of cleaned brass ready and waiting for my attention.

Yes, that is a single stage press. One of these days Santa Claus is going to bring me a present from the Blue Press (hint hint).

I better get to that brass, it's not going to load itself.

Nice! Did you build that bench yourself? I'll be getting into the reloading habit here real soon and am rather pressed for space, and something like that would be just about perfect for me, although I think I'll be going for the turret press from Lee...

I hate you. I want to reload, but the sheer initial cost would be impossible to pass by the Mrs. who is hoplophobic to begin with.

But, being a 10mm guy, I'm hoping my monthly trips to the range start racking up such heavenly bills that I can convince her that reloading would help.

I rescued the table, seems a company did not need it anymore and it was on it's way to the landfill. That was quite the score. It is 1 3/4" thick and very solid. Small enough to fit in the library/computer/wine room but big enough to be comfortable.

robb; if you start buying your ammo by the case, it's easier to say; "Well, if we only had a press..." he he

Ok, I get it now. You're a classic fetishist.

And Ma'am, you are a classic Troll. I have read your comments and often attempted to reply to them as if you were offering up honest debate. But that is not what you offer is it? You simply make off-hand, off topic, ignorant comments as some means of self edification. In some way, comments like the one you posted above make you feel good about yourself. I do not understand that and quite frankly am beginning to find you a bore.

LOL! Start racking up heavenly bills?
For 10mm I go for the hottest stuff I can find in the local shops at the prices I can afford, which turns out to be the Remington UMC 180-gr. FMJs (loaded to 1150 fps, which is just cruising for the 10mm but is still pretty good). It's still pretty high, though. You can't get it at Walmart, at least not here, and the gun store I go to all the time sells it for $20 for a box of 50. What I've been shooting since I got my 10mm Kimber Stainless Target II is the 180-gr. Federal American Eagle FMJs, at 1060 fps...good for just plain ole plinking & brass for later reloading, though, and it's a little higher @ $25 a box. I only managed to get the Remington for my most recent outing earlier this week. The 175-grain Winchester Silvertips are about $15 for a box of 20...at 1240 fps or so, they're a real blast to shoot, and no doubt they're excellent defense rounds, but I couldn't afford to shoot them on a regular basis. I do save the brass from all my trips, though, no matter what 10mm ammo I'm shooting. I think if you get just the basic components and don't go all-out with the progressive presses and all that, you could get into reloading for maybe $200 or so, about $300 if you throw a chronograph in there. I'd love to try out the stuff from Double Tap, but after shipping & such that'd be even higher and I can't quite afford it right now. As for the "fetishist" remark...it's quite clear from the name of the blog what its subject matter is, and if you don't find the author's commentary to your liking, there's a very obvious & simple solution to that problem...go find another blog to read, there are about 4 million of them to choose from, whose authors blog about whatever subject you can think of, and that number grows by the day.
Hey, JR -- what are the dimensions of that table? I know folks who'd help me build one kinda like it.

The table top is 30 x 30" sq. and 31" off the floor. I could probably find you a good deal on the legs if you decide to go that way.

To reload a 10mm round using a 180 gr bullet, 5.9 gr or Universal power and a CCI primer costs .16 cents. That is a .26 cent savings over the UMC ammo.

Using Midway USA prices, it would cost $303.00 for the Rock Chucker Supreme Master Kit, a shell holder and a quality set of 10mm dies.

Your equipment would pay for itself in 1264 loaded rounds using your own brass.

Hey Jr. I guess we're both a little slow, then, eh?

The way ammo's going up, probably not even that many. 100-count Winchester White Box .45 ball jumped 4 bucks last week at Walmart. I've heard IMR 800X and Accurate Arms No. 9 are really good powders for 10mm but am not sure how much they are. It'll be a few weeks before I get ready to lay down the cash for my equipment, but I'll keep in touch.

Oooooh, yeah!

Pistolero,

If you buy 1000 rounds from DoubleTap, shipping is free. I'm planning on picking up 500 rounds and a buddy is going to get the other 500 (we both shoot a Glock 29) just to avoid the shipping fee.

However it's still 43¢ a round.

Small price to pay for real 10mm ammo; it's a crying shame that the 10mm never took off like it should have. I think I'll be putting at least a Shok-Buff in the Kimber before I start going that fast, though. One of the guys at the gun store I frequent has a custom 10mm 1911 built on a Caspian frame, and I think all he's put through it is full-house loads. He's one of the people whose brains I'm gonna pick before I get started in earnest. I am interested to see how it's going to feel with lighter bullets, i.e., those 155- and 135-grain screamers...
