Today is the Day

If you have been waiting for the last minute to flood the Senate Judiciary Committee with faxes, phone calls and emails urging them to deny the confirmation of Eric Holder as the Attorney General, now is that last minute.

The confirmation hearings start tomorrow, today is the day to let them know just how offensive this nomination is to all freedom loving Americans.

Mike Sullivan was never confirmed Director of the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. He was nominated for the permanent position in March 2007, but his confirmation was held up by several Republican Senators (h/t David). If we can stop the confirmation of a republican nominated director, we can stop the confirmation of Eric Holder.

If you are coming late to this issue and are wondering why we want to stop the confirmation of Eric Holder, I'll let the words of Mike give you a basic introduction:

...of all the people BHO seeks to surround himself with in DC, Eric Holder as the nominee for Attorney General has to be the most offensive stench in the nostrils of free men and women.
With some effort, we can Block Holder Today!

I think it's a little unfair to leave out that regardless of the hold on his confirmation, he was able to remain Acting Director and will serve out the rest of Bush's term in charge of ATF. In fact, by not being confirmed, he's able to return to his old job in Massachusetts.

I'm not saying that discourage anyone from calling, I'm just putting it out there that none of it made a lick of difference in regards to Sullivan.

There is a very big difference between being an "acting" director and being a director that has been confirmed by Congress.

Mike Sullivan was a eunuch because he was not confirmed. He was not able to make major policy changes and his authority was minimal, he was just a temp. If this had happened earlier in Bush's tenure, he would have been replaced.
