Stephen Halbrook on Attorney General Nominee Eric Holder

Here is the video of Independent Institute Stephen P. Halbrook testifying before the Senate Judiciary Committee against the confirmation of Eric Holder for Attorney General.

Note the absence of the majority of the Judiciary Committee during the testimony. I have asked Senator Cornyn's Press Secretary for an explanation of the Senator's absence, but as of yet have received no response.

Dr. Halbrook is the author of "The Founders Second Amendment. Origins of the Right to Keep and Bear Arms.

There is still time to put a hold on Holder, contact your senator and let them know that you are not happy with this nomination and do not want to see Eric Holder confirmed as our Attorney General.

If you are a Texan, it is vitally important that you contact Senator Cornyn and ask him to do all he can to hinder Holder's confirmation.

I wrote Cornyn TWICE. Each time he gave me a totally non-answer answer, and a short one at that.

Feels pointless unless you want him to notice correspondence by sheer weight. *sigh*

JR, once upon a time I would have slapped ANYONE that talked bad about John Cornyn.

I too have contacted him regarding issues, and I got the same nonsensical response that dock referenced.

When Cornyn voted FOR the Wall Street bailout he became, in MY estimation, nothing more than a supporter of Socialism.

I fear that he has gone to *The DARK Side*.. No pun intended... Really... Well, OK, maybe a little intended... :)

I already have. His office has had more than enough time, and I have not received so much as a form letter in reply.

I contacted Senator Orrin Hatch and he practically blew me off. "If the Administration wants him and he has the credentials, it is not the Senate's job to stand in the way of his being seated."

This isn't the first time that Hatch has screwed Conservatives but unfortunately he'll continue to be elected here in Utah.

got this in return:

Sen. Cornyn: Holder Admission Requires Further Investigation By Senate

Urging Clemency for Terrorists Raises Deep Doubts About Nominee's Judgment

WASHINGTON—U.S. Sen. John Cornyn, a member of the Judiciary Committee, made the following statement regarding today’s committee hearing on the nomination of Eric Holder to be Attorney General.

“Today's revelation that Eric Holder recommended clemency to President Clinton for the 16 Puerto Rican terrorists over the repeated objections of career Justice Department lawyers raises deep concerns about his judgment and independence.

“Equally troubling is his rationale for clemency – namely, that these terrorists hadn't yet carried out their plots to murder or maim Americans. These were terrorists who had declared war on the United States – and considered themselves prisoners of war entitled to Geneva Convention rights. Many of the terrorists who were offered clemency refused to renounce violence against this nation.

“Now that Executive Privilege has been waved, it is incumbent upon my colleagues and me to fully investigate what could be one of the most unjustifiable exercises of Presidential clemency in history. We need to know whether improper political considerations and pressures played a part in Mr. Holder’s decision, and I will submit questions for the record to find out as much.”

Wow, Catfish, that's totally not what he sent me regarding the same thing.

Either he changed his mind because of the volume of stuff he'd been sent, or I did it wrong.

Could be a combination of the two.

Hey BTW, Howard Nemerov is speaking in TX tonight! Details on my blog. I will be there.

dock; Catfish got that press release from Cornyn's press secretary, I received the same.

That sounds like one very good meeting you are heading off to this evening.

I got the same non-answer from Warner of Virginia ("the president has the duty to..."), and, as usual, NO answer from Webb of Virginia.

Interestingly, Warner said he took seriously the Senate's constitutional duty to render advice and consent. Wonder if he knows "advice" and "consent" are two different things, and that good advice is "Don't Confirm Holder".
