This was a squib round from factory reloads. Click on the image for the full story.

Fortunately, the range personnel hammer this one home (no pun intended) every time we fire. EVERY daily safety brief involves mention of the dangers of reduced recoil and audible "pop." Glad that shooter knew what they were doing and didn't fire that sixth round...

I have never experienced a squib, but while shooting an annual qualifier with .45's in the Navy, I had one heck of a hang fire. Pull trigger, hammer falls, click... and then a bit more ... then bang. It was the training that kept my pistol on target while I was thinking "what the heck?".

Nowadays when I get a "click", it is a "tap, rack and carry on" drill. I do not even think about hang fires with pistols any more. Of course I'm not using 40 year old surplus ammo in my pistols these days.
