Fred is Out

Yes I am disappointed.

I am disappointed with the South Carolina Republicans. You voted for McCain? You forgot McCain/Kennedy? You forgot McCain/Feingold? You forgot the attempt at McCain/Lieberman? A full amnesty, open borders, anti constitution candidate won the S.C. primary? I really do not know what to say.

We are going to have a choice in the general election. A choice between a far left statist, and a left leaning statist (quiet possibly a left leaning, authoritarian statist). This makes me sick. It also makes me angry, but not angry enough to just say "forget it" and sit the whole process out.

We have legislators to elect. Since we have pretty much lost the White House already, we have to work even harder to get rid of the dead wood and elect quality representatives on Capitol Hill. Look to your local elections, and fight the good fight.

The only way to defeat McCain at this point is for all of Fred's supporters to throw their weight behind Romney. He's the only other one who's got a shot at being elected. What about a Romney/Thompson ticket? Not sure how likely it is, but it could work.

I know Romney isn't terribly popular in the shooting community because of his stated support of an "assault weapons ban" but realistically, I don't think he'd do it. Not like Clinton would. Romney's no leftist. And he's certainly better on every OTHER conservative issue than McCain.

Ok I respect the opinions you guys all have on here so I am going to ask this so I can be educated. What is the problem with supporting Ron Paul? I know some of the things he said about 9/11 and the war in Iraq left many people with a bad taste. I am a patriot and believe that we should defend our country against foreign aggressors but I can agree with Ron Paul's views that perhaps the US plays too much in other people's sandboxes when we should tend to our own. I say F*** the middle east and f*** all those who hate us. I say we take our toys back and play amongst ourselves and for a while maybe we should not play well with others.

Even without getting into issues, there's not a snowball's chance in the hot place of Ron Paul getting elected. Yeah, I know if everyone supported him he'd win, but let's face it... it's not going to happen. You don't advance your positions by losing elections. Look how well that worked for George McGovern in '72. If you value anything, your best bet is to vote for whoever is viable that most closely agrees with your positions. There's no such thing as a perfect candidate. People are just too diverse. You're never going to get a candidate who matches perfectly with enough people to win an election. With the Republican race down to McCain and Romney, Romney is the stronger conservative, and a financial mastermind. Do I agree with everything? No. But I sure like a lot more of him than I do of McCain. And right now, he has a reasonable chance of winning the nomination. Ron Paul doesn't.

Fred will still probably be getting my vote, and perhaps Ron Paul for VP. Most of the remaining Repub presidential candidates go so far to the left that they couldn't even get elected as Democrats here in Texas. In all likelihood I'll be voting for the GOP congresscritters just to hold the line against Obama or Clinton.

Kevin; I did support Dr. Paul for a time. I supported him up to the point where he stood in front of Congress and the world and attempted to help the Dems cut the feet out from under our soldiers. I respect Dr. Paul’s initial stance against the war, but now that we are there, we have to finish what we started.

It is interesting to me how many of Dr. Paul’s supporters insist that the founders would not support this war. It appears that they have missed out on an important piece of American history. The very first foreign war that the new Republic entered into was against the Ottoman Caliphate, you know, North African Muslims.

As a young country we attempted to appease these pirates and purchase safe passage. Up to 20% of early American revenues were paid annually to these pirates. This money did not purchase safety for Americans. Thomas Jefferson sent our first Navy and Marines into a war that lasted approximately 14 years.

Attempting to appease Islamist did not work then, and it will not work now. They want to kill us simply because we are not them.

A Ron Paul presidency would be pretty interesting. He would have the entire Congress vigilantly working against him. The media would be demonizing him at every turn, much worse than any public figure to date. The cabinet level bureaucrats, fearing for their jobs, would probably be trying to cut his throat in his sleep. That shake up would probably be a good thing.

I am glad that Ron Paul is in the race, and I am glad that he has done as well as he has, I just can not support him for the office of President.
